This online shoebox contains random pictures, notes, whatever. I've been a professional writer-photographer for so many years now. It's a damn good excuse to carry a camera around.

This kid rides the waves like a a cowboy rides his horse. Kuta's local surfers are 100% homegrown, yet they speak english with a distinct Aussie drawl.

And yeah, they surf like the soul-surfers they are...

Be it in the neighborhood shed overflowing with onlookers

Nothing beats watching a Manny Pacquiao boxing match in the Philippines. Just yesterday morning the whole country stood still as the Pacquiao-Marquez III bout unfolded in the US of faraway A. I was lucky to be in Cebu, just in time to see the empty roads, the closed stores and the quiet markets. I followed the first 7 rounds on the radio, then caught the last 5 rounds on the big screen. Everyone was glued to the fight, of course - so rarely was the country as unified as this!

Nalds, the long-haired surfer dude who introduced me to the board, describes the action at Baler's world-class surfing bay as a "24-hour TV - I can sit here and watch it all day!"

The kid in blue won the match.
