The highway stretches before you, its concrete curves meandering past an idyllic backdrop of pine
trees and rolling hills. You are traversing a ridgeline 600m above the sea.
To your right is a carpet of green; on your left is that postcard-perfect view of Lake Taal, its
volcanic island spewing a feathery smoke trail, far down below. Here, the air is fresh and the winds
are cool; this is nothing like hot, dusty, noisy Manila.
